Language... A marker of intelligence?

If you can speak three languages you're trilingual.  If you can speak two languages you're bilingual.  If you can speak only one language you're an American.  ~Author Unknown

Well then, I'm a bit apprehensive about moving as an American.

As I am collecting more and more information regarding Guatemala, I continue to get excited.  I can live off a suitcase of items for a year... I'm pretty flexible in that way (this trip is proving that).  I get to meet my host family!  I get to make a difference in another part of the world for at least a year... maybe even longer if God uses this to show me that I'm a long-term mission person.  I get to have this adventure... it's a complete privilege, and all the while, I'm going to have opportunities to rely more on God and invite people from my homes to join me through prayer and financial support.

This all sounds amazing, but... God... can I really rely on you for communication?
I'm doing Coffeebreak Espanol! And I'll continue my Rosetta Stone work.
BUT.. I can't even read this!

I would really like to communicate when I'm there.  Smiles go a long way, but words of affirmation can even go longer (not to mention words that give you directions!)
When I freak out about this topic, I just remember this...

I personally believe we developed language because of our deep inner need to complain.  ~Jane Wagner

Maybe I don't need language anyways.
