Jackson, Wyoming

"My Wyoming has an East Infection"
That bumper sticker quote may be all the words I need to describe the difference between NW Wyoming and the rest of the state.
Don't get me wrong... i'm sure there are some great things in Wyoming.  Their constant barrage of "stay alive, don't text and drive" signs shows their compassion for their residents and visitors.  Similarly, the ongoing cowboy motif is universally lived out in the people and the cities and it's very unifying.  But, there isn't much, um, "visible life".  Well, that's the case until you get to Jackson.  Jackson is strange in many ways.  One of these is that all the interstate signs and maps call Jackson, Jackson. But then Google maps doesn't recognize Jackson, Wyoming as a location.  They recognize the town as Jackson Hole, Wyoming.  This is the name all the residents give it too. Another strange thing about Jackson is that people in Jackson seem to wear Jackson Hole clothes all the time.  Yet another strange thing about Jackson is this:

The square in the middle of the town has giant arches of elk antlers at each of the four corners.

And...there are city ordinances to protect them and the square!
Those ordinances don't disallow pictures though!

Jackson Hole in itself is an outdoor oasis.  At the base of a challenging (AND ENTICING) ski hill, 4 miles away from Grand Teton National Park, 2 miles away from the National Elk Refuge, and 55 miles away from Yellowstone, it's a pretty great place.
Plus, it continues the cowboy motif. It has more horsedrawn carriages!
